What are Proctors?

Proctors perform an essential role for the running of our almshouses, and we’re currently looking for two additional volunteers to join our residents’ support team.

Proctors have been looking after the residents in our almshouses for hundreds of years. Although the role has changed during this time, (and no longer includes delivering coal and new coats to our residents!), Proctors are still the vital link between the Trust and the residents in our 42 properties.

A Proctor’s duties include making monthly contact with residents and helping to ensure that they understand any changes to the Trust’s policies and any major improvements we have planned. The Proctors also relay any resident problems or concerns so they can be addressed by the management team.

We currently have three Proctors on our team and are looking for more volunteers to ensure that each Proctor has a reasonable number of properties to cover. We are also seeking one member of the team to look after the routine maintenance calls and ensure that the correct approved contractor carries out the work. This will also involve keeping a log of all maintenance requests and the completion of works.

All volunteers will need to have a DBS certificate which will be organised and paid for by the Trust. The amount of time will vary from volunteer to volunteer, but we would anticipate a minimum of four hours per week.

If you are interested in this varied and rewarding role within the friendly NAT team, please contact us for further details.
